Personally i do not think this idea is a good one. All this will do is re enforce negative beliefs towards the straight edge population. Courage Crew has been notorious for violence towards non edge people. Ive been straight edge for 10 years ( for as long as knew what sXe was). Personally i think this will be a repeat of the Reno situation where a group of straight edgers bludgend two other kids almost to death. This issue was brought up on Geraldo at large where singer Karl Buechner represented the Straight edge movement. He did this very poorly, he didnt ever admit on the interview once, that what the Straight edge kids did was wrong. This gave the Public a terrible misrepresentation of the sXe movement

as i have said on many blogs about the subject. i fell that we should join together and try to stop this. try to clean up the bad name the media has given us. if john gotti can be a known mob boss and still gather respect and trust from many people in nyc without using fear, we should be able to get a better name then the one media has given us.

this is a HORRIBLE idea. it is going to pidgeon-hole straight edge as a gang. Courage Crew has become notorious for violence (see the Reno ordeal), and i believe a lot of the former members, or members involved in reno, had been arrested and or have served time behind bars. i will bet you anything that they are going to try and make this a sXe version of the Sopranos, over dramatizing everything and i bet they are going to stress the violence. Not everyone is militant. sXe is about making yourself the best you can be, and not polluting your body. i kinda have a bad feeling that this is going tobe left out of the show altogether.

This is the worst idea ever. This isn’t what sxe is about. They’re putting a bad name on a good thing.

Courage Crew is based out of Eaton Ohio, there are alot of dudes up in michigan, Indiana and the rest of the u.s. so maybe they were using chicago as a reference.

i dont know why he is doing this i live in Michigan about 3 hrs away from detriot and i have talked to dave and mat hase there not nice people

  15. 02/15/2008 at 9:55 am

Will Smith is down with bands like Bury Your Dead and shit, he’s definitely into hardcore, but making a show about CXCB probably isn’t a good idea.
Is it going to be like a reality show, or just a documentary?

Haha pumped. Sure courage crew doesnt represent what every straight edge person or group is about but they stray true to what they believe and stand together weither you agree or not. Plus their entertaining and who wants to say no to them haha.

  18. 02/20/2008 at 9:06 pm

FYI, Dave is a very nice and chilled out dude. I just talked to him last Thursday. Mostly all of them are pretty cool if you don’t act like a dumbass around them. But this whole show idea, I don’t think it’s a very good one. Mainly because people will have misrepresentations on what straight edge is really all about. Secondly, everyone and their mothers will be claiming it with no idea where it came from and more little kids will be showing up and shows pissing everyone off. Not good.

I’ve been in the Ohio scene for many years. And I’ve had my run ins with CC before. I’m not edge. I respect those who do it for themselves non-militantly, but pushing beliefs onto others, especially through violence like Courage Crew does, is tyrannical and the ideology should be banished. They should be treated int he same regard as Nazi Skins in the scene.

Militant straight edge overshadows everything positive about straight edge and hardcore and opens up so many paths of hypocrisy. For example, Courage Crew kids attack those who are not sXe, but will support bands like Terror, who’s lead singer sold out (Chris Alsop – Suffocate Faster – let’s Scott him stay at his house)? They’re militant against and do not support my beliefes, but listen to Blood for Blood, Madball, Agnostic Front, Death Before Dishonor and support them? They’re against smoking because it’s a vascular contricting carcinogent, but they drink 8 energy drinks a day? Ohh wait, let’s not forget the 3rd X in ‘XXX’ stands for don’t fuck, and the guys go and have unprotected and unmeaningful sex all the time. Does anyone see the problem here?

The sad thing is, I know Will and Jada Smith both support Courage Crew. Will was almost a CC member. I just hope that this documentary does not glorify CC actions or give them a platform to spew their hatred. At least Nazi’s hated ALL non-anglo-saxons and didn’t pick and choose. Courage Crew and any straightedge militant crew are nothing but hypocritical gang members that ruin the hardcore scene. They’ll always put themselves above the scene and destroy it. Look at Dayton. Good lord, we can’t even get a good show here anymore and our scene was thriving a long time ago. Why? Because of CC. They’re a joke.

positive hardcore is for pussys in my opinion, no one conquers who does not fight, militant edge is the way to go, who the fuck cares if i push my beliefs on someone else, dont talk to me or come near me then

  21. J.
    02/28/2008 at 9:13 pm

Wow, Anthony is an inelligent human. First off, how the hell would I know to stay away from you if I don’t know who you are and what your beliefs are? To be militant against people because they differ in opinion or belief is nothing more than tyranny.

At what point to you separate your views from those of a neo-nazi punk? Both are the same ideology. And both are ignorant.

You obviously do not realize that when hardcore started it was a unified scene. It didn’t matter if you smoke or drank or were straight. Ray Cappo could sit next to and fight with Jimmy Gestapo (see Donahue episode in the 80’s). The only thing militant straightedge accomplishes is make straightedge look negative.

If you want to push your beliefs onto people through debate, discussion, education, information, hell dude, I’m all for that. But through violence is ignorance, hatred, stupidity, and everything this country and our scene is against.

No one conquers who doesn’t fight is true. But that doesn’t mean 8 pussies have to jump a single innocent person because they exercise their American freedom of drinking. Fight with your mind. Fight with your heart. Defend yourself with your fists. That’s a man. 8 guys jumping someone, is nothing more than showing 8 pussies who can’t fight for themself.

FUCK ALL YOU, except the possi hardcore hater, thats the way to go.
all you fuckin tree huggers can go have sex with your sister, because shes the only one who probably accepts you, cause your a fag. SUCK MY DICK. xxx

I know what hardcore is, and how it started out, im not a nu jack
and neo-nazis and militant kids have nothing in common, im militant for the most part, i have friends who smoke or drink, i would rather them be edge tho and have pushed my beliefs on them
and most real kids stick up for their friends and fight with their friends, thats how every scene ive ever seen has gone

This can really have its pros and cons. I understand the crew mentality because I’m a crew member, and i understand SE mentality because I’m Edge. But i think that this is an all around bad idea.

This will put the Straight Edge/hardcore culture under the spotlight, which will either give us Edgers a bad name(because CC is notorious for violent straight edge), or as said in one of the above it will make it trendy. Nobody wants us to look like bad guys for doing a pure thing. I understand having and defending your beliefs, but beating the shit out of people because they chose to exercise their right as an American citizen is complete bullshit. You CAN’T force your beliefs on someone. It has never worked in history and has always led to the downfall of something great. Just because you beat someones ass for drinking, doesn’t mean they’ll change their ways.

I love Straightedge and i love hardcore equally, but i strongly believe that SE is tearing up the scene from the inside out. It is separating hardcore, when it should be unified. We are a movement and we need to stick together, not tear each other apart. I don’t support people who drink and use drugs, but its their life and to each his own.

Someone above had a good point… Militant SE is practically the same as Neo-Nazism in the skinhead culture. Different ideals, same way of enforcing it. Granted, Neo-Nazism is bullshit because nobody can chose their race or color, but being militant SE is nearly as bad and equally ignorant.

So in conclusion i believe that although Will Smith may have good intentions with this, it is really something that shouldn’t be done. I honestly believe that this will idolize people, who shouldn’t be idols. Not saying that i don’t like CC, because I know and am friends with members, but i believe that what they stand for shouldn’t be something that others should look up to on television. They misrepresent a pure movement, and turn it into a monster, same as Reno Edgers and xSTRAIGHTEDGEx bands like xTYRANTx, xAFBx, and other extremists in the ‘scene’.
