Define the Meaning to close doors

For Immediate Release

11.30.2011

After six wonderful years of publishing Define The Meaning, given the current state of the economy and being on hiatus for over a year, we have officially decided to close our doors. Being around since 2005, we did what we can to push the zine further, but unfortunately things did not work in our favor. Although this is a sad time, we couldn’t be more thankful for all the love and support we received from all of the bands, record labels, publicists, distribution companies, and hardcore, punk, and metal fans from all over the world.  Without your strong support we wouldn’t have been able to make it as far as we did.

The last edition of Define the Meaning, featuring The Dillinger Escape Plan, was printed in 2010. The next planned issue, Issue #11, remains unreleased. It featured exclusive stories and photos with the members of Slayer, Megadeth and Testament from their 2010 tour together. Potential plans of releasing a digital version of the issue remain uncertain.

We would like to take this time to give special thanks to those who have helped us throughout our six great years:

Assistant editors Justin Fullam and Melanie Wolfson, all of the talented contributing writers and photographers, all of the staff at Revelation Records, Rich Black, Awake/Strong, Bridge 9 Records, ThinkFast!, Jay Aust, Jeffrey Aust, With Honor, Ambitions,  The Dillinger Escape Plan, Disticor, Ingram Periodicals, Deathkiller, Ian McFarland,  Benjamin Delloiacono, Stephanie Marlow, Black N Blue Productions,  Heidi Minx, Side One Dummy Records, Interpunk.com, 4Fini, WSOU 89.5, XM Satellite, Tower Records, Adrenaline PR, Joel Gausten, Barnes & Noble, DeathWish Inc, Operation Gratitude, Punknews.org,  Chunksaah Records, Screaming Crow Records, AngryWhiteBoy Clothing, Punkradiocast.com, Iann Robinson, AMP Magazine, Mutiny PR, Fat Wreck Chords, Earshot Media, Big Hassle, KOI Records, Metal Blade Records, Epitaph Records, Another Reybee Production, Inc., Strong Management, Amy Sciarretto, House Of Blues in Vegas, Diamond #1 & The Court Tavern, WBR, Alkaline Trio, Rise Against, Madball, Sick Of It All,  Mastodon, Murphy’s Law, Jon Pebsworth, Fresno Media, Patrick Stefano, Stephanie Moore, H20, My Turn To Win….the list goes on.

Guns N’ Roses Guitarist Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal to Participate In Live Stream Event On FAN TIME LIVE! May 18th, 2011

In celebration of Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal’s latest single “Invisible” he will be participating in an exclusive event with FAN TIME LIVE! on May 18th, 2011 from 8pm – 9 pm EST. The event will be live-streamed at www.fantimelive.com and will feature an interview, Q&A with the viewers, and maybe a few musical requests if there’s a guitar around…

Thal began digitally releasing a song-a-month in January, complete with guitar transcriptions, mix stems of the recordings and alternate mixes. Previous releases include Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (Elton John), Strawberry Fields Forever (the Beatles) and Bernadette (Four Tops).

“After years on the road it’s great to be back in the studio, putting out these songs every month,” says Thal.  “ Invisible is the first original song I’ve released since 2008. This year I started teaching again, doing a lot of guest playing on albums and at shows, and am hoping to produce some bands as well this year if time allows. Getting back to doing everything I’ve been missing.”

Recent releases featuring Thal’s guest guitar work include Reach Down (Scarlet Haze), Free Yourself (Ty Tabor of King’s X), and even a cover of Frosty the Snowman with Steve ‘Lip’ Kudrow of Anvil on vocals.

Thal is also playing NYC-area shows as guitarist in the band Pisser with Guns’ drummer Frank Ferrer.  Thal will be a guest guitarist with the metal band Salem in Israel on May 6th, and with Pisser at Bowery Electric in NYC on May 24th.
